Pendant light installation completed in Stanmore
When Nick and his family moved from Forest Lodge to their new home in Stanmore, in Sydney’s Inner West, there were a few lights they weren’t leaving behind. Two large feature pendants had been the centrepieces of their old living spaces, and the kids had a favourite light of their own. We took them down at the old house so they could come along for the move.
The Stanmore house has beautiful ornate plaster ceilings, each with a decorative ceiling rose in the centre of the room. That’s exactly where the big pendants belonged. For the pendant light installation, we hung one in the sitting room and one in the living room, each mounted on its ceiling rose, and took care to work around the original plasterwork so the ceilings were left as we found them.
Nick also wanted two changes to how the lights worked. He wanted to be able to dim them. And the old setup used pull cords that ended up behind the doors, so you had to step into a dark room and reach around to find them. We set both pendants up with dimming and added a wireless switch on the correct side of each doorway, so the lights now come on as you walk in and can be turned down for a quieter evening.
Then it was the kids’ turn. We put their favourite pendant back up in their bedroom and added a dimmer, so the light can be turned right down and isn’t too bright as they get ready for bed.
The lights that came from the old house are now back up in the new one, with switches where they make sense.
