Built-in oven replacement

Compare the new and old connections

Have the new oven’s model and instructions ready, plus the old model if you still have it. A replacement may look similar but need a different connection or draw a different load. We’ll compare its requirements with the existing circuit so any extra electrical work is clear before fitting day.

Measure the opening and clearances

Measure the cabinet opening against the manufacturer’s ventilation and clearance requirements before installation. Photos may reveal an obvious mismatch, while any cabinetry alterations belong with the appropriate trade. Confirming the fit early keeps the electrical visit focused on connecting the oven.

Freestanding electric cookers

Consider the combined cooking load

A freestanding electric cooker combines the oven and cooking surface, so its total load may be different from the old unit. Share the model specifications so the existing circuit, home supply and switchboard can be assessed together. If extra electrical work is needed, we’ll explain it before treating the old connection as suitable.

Plan a change from gas

If an electric cooker is replacing gas, arrange disconnection with the appropriate licensed trade. MPS handles the electrical side and checks the circuit your chosen cooker needs. Tell us about the fuel change and show the present cooking area so the trades can be planned in the right order.

Circuit and switchboard decisions

When the existing circuit may suit

The existing oven circuit may suit the new appliance, but we must check its rated load and connection requirements. Send the instructions and a photo of the present connection to begin the review. If the wiring and product align, the replacement may use the current circuit; otherwise, MPS can explain the extra electrical work before fitting day.

Board work as a separate service

The switchboard’s condition and available supply may matter when a new appliance has different electrical requirements. If board work is identified, Switchboard upgrades can be scoped separately from the oven connection. Photos of the board help with an initial discussion, while some conditions require a site inspection.

Timing and installation cost

Prepare the product and space

Once you have chosen the final model, keep its instructions handy and make sure the appliance will be available for the planned installation. Send photos of the existing connection, switchboard and cabinet opening, plus the space dimensions. If gas or cabinetry work is needed, line up the relevant trade first so the electrical visit can focus on connecting the oven.

What changes the electrical price

The price depends on the appliance’s connection requirements and what the home already has. Access, a new position, circuit changes or board work can make the job more involved than a direct replacement. We’ll base the quote on the electrical work needed, with an on-site check where photos cannot confirm the wiring.

Why choose MPS Electrical?

  • Match the connection to your oven. We check the model’s requirements against the existing circuit before planning the electrical installation.
  • Know when a swap needs more work. Comparing the old and new models helps identify extra electrical work before fitting day.
  • Keep the wider job moving. We flag board, gas or cabinetry questions early so you can arrange the right preparation.

Get your oven installation ready

Start your oven installation enquiry with the new model, the old model if available, and photos of the appliance space, connection and switchboard. We’ll help you understand whether the electrical job looks like a replacement or needs further checks. That gives you time to arrange the right preparation before fitting day.
